Silver Jubilation – Saturday, November 18, 2017, 8 PM

This concert is now over; here is what our audience had to say about it:

Magnificent!!! Music caused an ovation of the grandest sort. — JE, London

The concert Saturday evening was so very beautiful… The Gjello was deeply moving with such a rich tonal colour from the choir. And of course, the Handel danced! Thanks for all your hard work. — LM, London

As a chorister, it was quite an experience to see the audience rise at the end of the first half, after Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass. Thank you, audience! — CJH, KSS member

The standing ovations were well deserved. What a gift to be able to enjoy the concert! Thank you! — RJ

Awesome Concert… Diane and I are now converts and are planning to attend all the future concerts. I especially liked the second half. How can anyone not like Handel! — RC, London

Cried throughout, in love with Gjeilo. Most moving musical experience since hearing Missa Gaia with Elora Singers — HD

George LOVED the concert last night!!!!!!! — GL, London

The concert was glorious. You couldn’t tell where the choir left off and the orchestra began. It was seamless. — LO, London

This is your 25 Anniversary & I have been attending KSS for 24 years; I’ve rarely missed a concert. Some of the concerts I may have felt a bit doubtful about, but decided to come at the last minute, often were some of my favourites. I highly recommend KSS to people I meet, sometimes at other musical events. — CD, London

Twenty-five years! How marvellous! Congratulations and Thank You for all the joy! — RC, London

I love this choir and the songs that are sung. — GB, London

What a remarkable night. Thanks. Happy anniversary.  — TP, London

Many thanks! for the glorious music and for all the wonderful talent… outstanding ♫♪♫  — CS, KSS Board

I found myself in a trance-like state throughout because of texture.  — NA, London

Most ethereal work I’ve ever heard.  — SS, London

Loved the Handel.  — HM, London

PROGRAM

  • OLA GJEILOSunrise Mass
  • GEORGE FRIDERIC HANDELDettingen Te Deum (HWV 283)

Ola Gjeilo’s breathtaking Sunrise Mass (2008) is performed the world over. A spiritual work that is neither sacred nor secular, the four movements take us on a metaphysical journey from the heavens to earth, affirming the cosmos. Also on the program, Handel’s jubilant and triumphant Dettingen Te Deum, performed in English with full orchestra and superb soloists, Gabrielle Heidinger Baerg, Christopher Fischer and Giles Tomkins. A brilliant example of how Handel could capture the tone of festive occasions. Several borrowings from Messiah can be heard in this, Handel’s finest setting of this text of praise and thanksgiving.
