Karen Schuessler Singers celebrate community with ‘Secrets of Old South’
London, ON – Join the KAREN SCHUESSLER SINGERS as they celebrate the gifts of community with Secrets of Old South on Saturday, May 4 at Wesley-Knox United Church, 91 Askin Street, at 7:30 p.m.
As the first UNESCO City of Music in Canada, Londonhas deep creative roots and a continuous commitment to growing a robust, culturally diverse and enriched music community.
Secrets of Old South is a recognition of this very thing! But not only that, this concert will celebrate the value of community through the richness of its neighbourhoods, particularly as experienced in Wortley Village, lovingly called “Old South”, often named one of Canada’s best neighbourhoods!
Taking us on this tour with songs, stories, and laughter will be our host and storyteller, Adam Corrigan Holowitz. Adam will share the secrets of this special corner of London that will delight and surprise. In his unique, Stuart McLean style, Adam will paint a varied and exciting picture of village life as it is found in Old South, but which can be experienced in all of London’s hidden pockets.
Music for the concert will be as eclectic as the neighbourhood it celebrates, with a mixture of styles and themes. Vocalist Denise Pelley, pianist Steve Holowitz, and band join the choir performing a varied array of songs, including music by local composers Steve Hardy, Jeff Smallman, and Tobias Sass, as well as Todd Rundgren, Mark Hayes, Canadian Bob Buckley, and more.
“This will be a celebration of community at its best. A high energy, “feel good” concert in which we pay tribute to an important foundation in our life—our Community. It will be a concert to remember!” says Director, Karen Schuessler.

About the Karen Schuessler Singers:
The Karen Schuessler Singers is one of London’s premier concert choirs. Celebrating 30 years of great music, it was founded in 1993 by director Karen Schuessler to explore the wealth of choral music. The choir has become well known for quality performances and widely varied, accessible and innovative programming.
Each season the choir presents a 3-concert subscription series designed to appeal to all ages and musical tastes. The choir performs choral repertoire not often performed to complement traditional repertoire with music ranging from the classics to jazz to Broadway, and from Medieval to the 21st century.
The vision of Karen Schuessler Singers is to create concerts that are not only entertaining and thought provoking, but that also lift spirits, lighten hearts and deepen souls.
