The Karen Schuessler Singers presents “Sing Joy”

London, ON – the KAREN SCHUESSLER SINGERS continues their 29th season with “Sing Joy!”, an exploration of singing as accompaniment to life’s important moments and events, with music by Alberto Favero, Z. Randall Stroope, David Maddux, Moses Hogan, and more.

Saturday, March 5, 2022, 7:30 PM, at Wesley-Knox United Church, 91 Askin Street.

“Every culture sings. And every culture marks joyous, important, and transcendent moments with singing. At the same time, singing brings strength and courage. In short, singing is a carrier of the power of the human spirit. We don’t always appreciate it as such, but that has been its function and how it has acted throughout the centuries. Nothing important happens without music to ground it and give it added meaning”, says Artistic Director, Karen Schuessler.

Drawing on traditions from cultures where singing expresses life’s meaningful moments, the concert will explore how music gives voice to the passion for life of South America, Africa’s enthusiastic praise and vitality, and through the songs of Black enslavement in America, strength and fortitude to live and love.

Music includes the Argentinian popular song, “Te Quiero” by Alberto Favero, exuberant African praise songs, along with the exciting rhythm and authenticity of Spirituals in arrangements by Keith Hampton and Moses Hogan.

Joining the choir will be soloist and world percussionist, Alfredo Caxaj, who will be singing a beautiful solo by the “Cuban John Lennon”, Silvio Rodríguez, plus more, along with percussionist, Jeff Floyd and pianist, Grace Yip.

“Clearly, music makes everything better. It takes us to a deeper place and heightens our experiences of life’s important moments. Is it any surprise that our motto is ‘Sing Joy’? Come, and Sing Joy with us!” says conductor Karen Schuessler.

TICKETS are $25, General Admission. Due to COVID-19 safety measures, tickets are limited and can only be purchased in advance on our website at www.kssingers.com, or by phone (519) 681-8129. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door.

The Karen Schuessler Singers is one of London’s premier concert choirs. Founded in 1993 by director Karen Ann Schuessler to explore the vast world of choral music, the choir has become well known for quality performances and widely varied, accessible and innovative programming.
